Stylish French Lesson

So you call yourself a fashionista, but u can't pronounce Lanvin correctly? Tsktsk, my dear. To be fluent in fashion, one should be fluent in French. Ok....that's not true, but you should at least be able to properly say the names of the major fashion houses you claim to love so much.

A couple of the mispronunciations that I cringe at most:

Givenchy -- it's not GUH-VIN-CHEE (ugh! *dies*). it's "zhee-vahn-shee" . Note: The French pronounce the letter "g" the way the majority of English-speakers pronounce the "s" in the word "usual" or "usually."

Lanvin -- not Lan-vin, but "lah(n)-vae(n)"

Louboutin -- omg hiphop has BUTCHERED this name. Listen, Kanye....its not "lou-bit-ton", it's "loo-boo-ti(n)" -- think the french word "vin" to help pronounce "tin".

Hervé Léger -- not HERVE LEDGER :S --> "air-vay lay-zhay" the G here is pronounced the same as in Givenchy.

For audio clips on how to pronounce almost every major fashion house's name (incl. Balmain, Chopard, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hermes, and so much more) go here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9byORv-O6g

and for those of you who think it may be a bit pretentious and tedious to say the names properly....think about this: if someone pronounced RZA, Kanye, or Wale wrong you'd correct them just the same, right? Right.

French is sexy so study up! :)
